Here is how you ACHIEVE your hair goals this year!

Hi there!

Do you have hair goals for 2019? Here are the three key elements you must include to position yourself for success.

1. Write it down. Those who handwrite their goals have over an 80% higher success rate of achieving them. Success does not just happen, it is intentional. Writing down what you will achieve this year is the first step in being purposeful with your actions.

Ex: I have written in my Hair Goal Action Guide, "I will create balance in my regimen by shortening my detangling time on wash day to an hour and a half or less by May 1, 2019."

2. Break your big goal into daily and weekly tasks. Looking at your goal from the perspective of a year from now is a sure way to feel overwhelmed and confused. Keep life simple and ask yourself, "What can I do today to honor my goal?" Once you have addressed this question and written down your daily plan, you can ask yourself, "What can I do each week to set myself up for success?" Then move on to what you will do each month, and lastly each quarter. Use this step-by-step method to release resistance when outlining your goals. Make it even easier by outlining your tasks over multiple sessions.

Today - "I will keep my hair tied up in a loose bun while lounging around the house/as often as I like, preventing unnecessary tangles."

Daily - "I will lightly moisturize my hair, keeping it moist and easy to work with."

Weekly - "I will cleanse, condition and detangle my hair every 5-6 days because I know this is when my hair begins to lose moisture and knot."

Monthly - "I will wear my hair in low manipulation styles like twists or cornrows three weeks out of the month, keeping my strands compact and nearly tangle-free."

Quarterly - "I will trim every three months to eliminate dry ends before they become an issue by making detangling more difficult and longer than necessary."

3. Focus and Be Intentional
Once you have outlined what you will do to achieve your goal, focus solely on the plan you have set. The magic of having the hair of your dreams is in the work you tend to put off. Having the plan is the foundation, but you need to put action behind that plan to make it a reality. Create a contingency plan for those activities that tend to slip you up so that you have a safety net and can get back on track with your goals quickly. Be sure to track your progress to visually see your momentum and stay determined!

My Contingency Plan + How I Plan To Track Progress

To stay focused on my plan of success, I will limit the time I spend on social media taking in other people’s regimens and instead use that time to take inventory of what is currently working in my regimen and what needs to be adjusted. I will track my progress by timing each of my wash days and recording what products and techniques I use to create my results.

*Pro Tip: If you do not plan it, it will not happen. Take some time at the start of each month to plan out your hair care so that you have no doubt of your next wash day, when you will clarify versus shampooing, your next in-salon trim, etc. Planning out your month takes the burden of uncertainty off your shoulders, allowing you to move forward clearly to resolute action.
